Participants go to "Black" at the MAC

Taking a break from the workshops, over 30 participants from the Secret City attended 20 Stories High's production "Black" at the MAC on the 4th of February.

Into 2015 with Rathbone

No sooner are we back after the New Year, and we are straight into workshops for the Secret City. We held a great workshop with Rathbone, and members of their Youth Forum. It was amazing of the MAC to provide us with the Den as a venue for the workshop, giving the participants the opportunity to visit an Arts Centre that is located so close to where they meet. The workshop was lots of fun, with everyone contributing, and finished with some really poignant reflections on what it is like as a young person growing up in Belfast. It was a great way to start the new year and we look forward to building on the work that was created by the participants.

Seeing out 2014 at Rathcoole Community Centre

Our last workshop of 2014 was held in Rathcool Community Centre, where we met members of their newly formed Youth Forum. It is great to have them on board, especially as they have a number of other projects that they are participating in, including an upcoming trip to Poland. Despite the wet Sunday night, it was fantastic of the young people to make the effort to come down to the centreIt was the first time we had the opportunity to meet the participants and we are looking forward to working with them in 2015.

East Belfast through the eyes of Inner East Youth

At tonight's workshop, the young people of Inner East designed a tour of their area, bringing us to places that had a significance to them as individuals, amongst their peers and their wider community. These have all been included on our twitter account, under #thisisourbelfast
We are hoping that we can get all of the groups to start using this and share the spaces and places that are important to them, giving young people from across the city the opportunity of an insight into areas of the city that they may not have visited before.

Young People from Glen Parent and Youth join the Secret City

Following meetings with community workers in Glen Parent Youth Group, workshops have kicked of with young adults from Lenadoon in West Belfast. The workshops are being run in the new centre, which has undergone massive redevelopment, previously being an abattoir! The centre is a hive of activity, with lots of different programmes being run for the young people in the area.
This is the first time that Prime Cut have worked with Glen Parent Youth Group, so it is fantastic to be nurturing this partnership. Discussions are already underway for potential future projects in a centre that is creating lots of opportunities for the surrounding community.

The Secret City Launches

We are in full flow with our next Community Engagement Project, “The Secret City”, with workshops happening across Belfast. This Youth focused project collaborates with a number of organisations including Inner East Youth Project, Hosford House, Springboard Opportunities, Rathbone, Mountcollier Youth Club and Monkstown Youth Club.
These initial workshops are being held within each organisation’s premises. In the new year all the groups will be bought together in the new year to work on a piece that will be showcased at the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival at the end of April 2015.
