Owen McCafferty: Playwright

Owen is currently working on new commissions for the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, The MAC and Prime Cut Productions. 

Owen is an artistic associate of Prime Cut Productions. Previously Prime Cut have staged Owen’s plays Cold Comfort, his version of Antigone (both directed by McCafferty) Scenes From The Big Picture and Shoot The Crow. Other work directed by McCafferty for Prime Cut includes Pinter’s Ashes To Ashes.

Plays include Absence of Women (The Lyric Theatre, Belfast), Owen’s version of JP Miller’s Days of Wine & Roses (Donmar Warehouse) Scenes From The Big Picture (National Theatre) winner of the John Whiting Award, the Meyer Whitworth Award and the Evening Standard Charles Wintour Award for New Playwriting, Closing Time (Manchester Royal Exchange)  Shoot The Crow (Druid Theatre Company), an adaptation of Ionesco’s The Chairs,  No Place Like Home and Court Room No 1 (Tinderbox Theatre) and Mojo Mickybo  (Kabosh). His plays for radio include The Elasticity of Supply and Demand and The Law of Diminished Returns. 

Many of Owen’s plays have enjoyed extended success including Shoot The Crow which  has been produced in London’s West End and Days of Wine and Roses which has been produced throughout Europe.

A film based on Mojo Mickybo has been produced by Working Title, directed by Terry Loane.
