Our Artistic Development Programme invests in the development of Northern Irish professional theatre and artists. The programme facilitates paid Internships for emerging Theatre Professionals, provides a platform for New Writing, and devised and experimental work, programmes Development Workshops and Laboratories and has commissioned new work by several Northern Irish Playwrights.

Professional Development – Internship Programme

Prime Cut provides a yearly paid internship which is often attached to one of our main productions. Over the years we have offered a placement and mentorship support across the spectrum of theatre skills: sound design, lighting design, production management and assistant directorship. The placement is a hands-on work based learning experience which is overseen by a highly experienced theatre artist and managed by the Prime Cut team. Many of the past recipients of the award have found the experience invaluable – but don’t take our word for it. Watch our news feed for details of up and coming internship opportunities.

Workshops and International Laboratories

Prime Cut programme and deliver workshop and theatre laboratories throughout the year. We believe that the space to play, develop, and innovate is crucial in the development of the form and of its artists and it has been our pleasure to provide the framework for this artistic adventuring. We have enjoyed working with some fantastic International practitioners [ Frantic Assembly, East West Center, Sarajevo, Graham Whybrow, Owen McCafferty, David Gothard, Patrick O’Kane].

New Writing

Whilst the main thrust of Prime Cut’s artistic mission is to produce International playwrights we have commissioned some great new work from some of Northern Ireland’s best: Owen McCafferty, Damian Gorman, Declan Feenan. Prime Cut are currently working closely with Lucy Caldwell on ‘Stitching Time’ which was presented as a work in progress in the Pick N Mix Festival in 2013.
