"For two thousand inter galactic dollars we could go into the lottery and come out with a different body, a different voice and still carry our memories [allowing for a little leakage] more or less intact."
A thought provoking and truly moving piece of theatre about love, loss and the genetic lottery.Based on a story by Peter Carey and adapted for the stage by Jackie Doyle this play will transport you to another world. A world irrovovably changed by the Fastologians-an alien race who have transformed the nature of existence with their technology. It is against this backdrop of a deeply fractured society which has embraced "the cancerous philosophy of change" that the love story of Carla and Paul unfolds. This play will leave you questioning your notion of self, the true nature of beauty and the moral ethics of genetic engineering.

"What rescues this from Hollywood ordinary is the combination of fascinating performances, Terry Loane's panoramic knowing set, the full soundscape from Bell Helicopter, and Jackie Doyle's masterly directorial adaptation which slowly envelops its audience in the soft web of complicity….The excellent Prime Cut meet the Festival's quest for challenging drama, throwing open another enlightening window on the human condition through an ethical casement which would otherwise have remained padlocked.
" Ian Hill - The Newsletter |

"This play shows human weakness in its truest form. Carey's story suggests that the power in our society is the selfish greed of its people. Jackie Doyle must be praised for directing a fascinating piece of theatre that really examines the social conscience. It is an influential and forceful play that interrogates every angle of our consumer-ridden culture " The Sunday Life |

"There was widespread admiration and praise for Prime Cut, which celebrated its tenth birthday in tremendous style with it's ambitious stage adaptation by artistic director Jackie Doyle of Peter Carey's challenging short story The Chance….a landmark piece of locally crafted theatre."
