The Mercy Seat by Neil LaBute
New York City, September 12th 2001. Ben should have been in the World Trade Centre but instead he visited his lover Abby. As the dust is still settling, Abby and Ben explore the choices now available in a world that has changed overnight. Will Ben answer his ceaselessly ringing mobile phone and let his family know he is safe or will he take the opportunity to start a new life with Abby? This bracing corrective to the view that 9/11 was a time of uniform heroism and selflessness will certainly give you food for thought.
Ashes To Ashes by Harold Pinter
Rebecca is haunted by 'memories' of a sinister yet seductive relationship. These memories of a once caring lover are married with painful images of atrocity and genocide. Devlin, Rebecca's present partner needs a way into her thoughts. He is compelled to interrogate her to get at the truth. Ashes To Ashes is a powerful and humane look at how the past weaves its way into the present.

"Together this is a strong and polished production from Prime Cut. Thought-provoking, complex, difficult and, in LaBute's case at least, darkly funny, these are plays that stay with you, troubling you, gnawing at you..and thats exactly their point." Irish Theatre Magazine - number 19 |
|
"Prime Cut shows how truly blind love can be, and how tragedies affect the lives of those untouched in surprising ways. The clever pairing of two such different plays with shared themes illustrates how history has a nasty way of creating ripples that stretch far into the future.
" Belfast Telegraph |
|
"Owen McCafferty makes an impressive directing debut with this finely paced, disciplined production
" The Irish Times on Ashes To Ashes |
|
"Under Jackie Doyle’s crackling, clear-sighted direction, Kate O’Toole and Brian McCardie are superb as this mismatched pair.
" The Irish Times |
|
"The double bill is brought to us by one of Belfast’s key theatre companies Prime Cut who are not afraid of choosing ‘difficult’ work and who are significant in giving a platform to theatre you might otherwise have to get on a plane to find.
" The Vacuum |
|
"In the company of four superb actors, beautifully directed by Jackie Doyle and Owen McCafferty, thought-provoking design by David Craig and two excellent contemporary plays, this really is an excess of riches.
